Volume II consists of records of the higher courts of the North Carolina colony for the period prior to January 1697.
The court records shed light on many aspects of life in the colony. They provide information concerning sources of immigration, business relations with other colonies, occupations of settlers, and social customs. They are practically the only source on the early legal system. They contain details not found elsewhere regarding political conditions. Their publication has enabled scholars to fill gaps and correct errors in existing accounts of the origin of this nation.
