Since its founding in 1900, the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association has played a significant role in fostered the state's cultural life. The association's objectives are:
- to foster the interest in North Carolinians in the
state's literature and history
- to promote broad and varied activity in the field
of state and local history - to encourage productive literary activity within
the state - to bring public attention to meritorious works
by North Carolina writers - to serve as a medium for the constructive
exchange of ideas among persons concerned for
the permanent well-being of North Carolina, and - to cooperate so far as may be practicable with other organizations in North Carolina whose purposes
are similar to the purposes of the association.
Membership in the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association includes a one-year subscription to both the North Carolina Historical Review and the North Carolina Literary Review. The membership year runs from July 1 through June 30.
