E. Lawrence Lee

New Hanover is one of North Carolina's oldest counties and has played an important role throughout the state's history.

The text of this "historical sketch" is divided into four chronological sections: "The Colonial Period," "The Antebellum Period," "The Tragedy of the Civil War," and "The Modern Period [Reconstruction into the 20th Century]." Within each of these sections, the author discusses specific topics, such as economy, transportation, religion, education, and cultural life.

Fifty-three black-and-white illustrations enhance the text.

Paperbound. Pp. xiv, 124. Illus. (3rd printing, 1984) (t)

This title is discounted because its covers are faded and its discussion of the county ends in the late 1970s.

All sales of discounted titles are final, and no returns will be accepted.
